My friend Saintseester is burying her brother Doug today.  He had a heart attack at work on Monday.  He was 42 years old, which meets no reasonable definition of “old enough.”

What can you say but that you’re so sorry, and that you’re thinking of and praying for her family?  There’s nothing.  This is the only certainty.  Think of someone you love.  Unless you’re partial to rappelling into active volcanoes together or something, odds are excellent one of you shall face the loss of the other.

I never met Doug, but always kind of thought I would one day.  I know enough to say with confidence that his life wasn’t always smooth, but I also know enough to say that he had restored a lot of goodwill and fellowship in recent years.  And ‘seester has told me of things about me that remind her of him, and those weigh heavily on me today.

I hold Saintseester, her sister, their husbands and children, and their mother close in my heart today.  I wish you all peace.  May God comfort you.

    1. I am sorry Saintseester. I don’t know you but, I feel like I do through reading Bo’s blog. I too will be praying for you and your family.

      Bo’s Sister,
      Jenny

    2. Thanks, Bo. Your kind words mean a lot. I made it through the eulogy, with just a tad bit of ad-lib. I think it went well. The last time I spoke at that same podium in that same church was high-school graduation, 29 years ago.

    3. Thanks, Jenny. I know she appreciates that.

Saintseester, I’m sure you did fine, and if you only had to compose yourself once, you did way better than I did at my mom’s. I pretty much blubbered all the way through it.

    4. I give both of you credit. I couldn’t do anything but sit through my Dad’s service.

      Peace, ‘Seester.

    5. I don’t think the priest appreciated the high-five’s between susan and me, but he’ll get over it…
