I’ve made the semi-painful decision not to attend the Kiss concert in Birmingham next month.
It’s expensive, for one ($141 for a good seat; $91 for a decent seat). It’s the same day as the Alabama-Tennessee game, for another. The opening act is Buckcherry, for yet another, which means I’d have to time our arrival between sets. (My not-quite-8-year-old isn’t seeing even 30 seconds of a Buckcherry set, thank you.) There just isn’t any fruit lining up.
How about a little something cool in lieu, though? This is one of my very favorite singer-songwriters doing one of my very favorite songs of all time. I saw the Atlanta stop on the Live to Win tour, which happened to be the first one. This is from the Chicago Live to Win date (and the One Live Kiss DVD):
Sometimes this is my favorite Kiss song; other times “Deuce” beats it out. It’s a long-time favorite regardless, and always shall be.
I don’t care that Paul Stanley wears a wig and is old enough to be my father; he’s still a first-order badass, and it has almost nothing inherent to do with his Starchild persona. Watch him in this clip (particularly at the reprise break, starting about 2:31). Man, what would you give for 10% of that coolness? And is he the only rock ‘n’ roll vocalist of his age and experience you can effin’ name who hasn’t lost any of his voice at all?
Sorry we’re going to miss you and the guys this time around, Paul. Hope we get another chance soon.
