The weekend is not going as I had planned.

We were headed to Nathan’s basketball game, and then we were all going for a walk for a geocache or two.  Instead, Nathan woke up with a fever and a throat of brimstone.  So Lea took him to endure a throat culture (positive), and Aaron and I ran snacks up to the basketball game, and here we are.

Where have I heard this story before? Sheesh, it’s almost the same date and everything.

BamaDan loaned me Freaks and Geeks, and I’ve watched a couple of episodes today. I missed it in first run despite the unceasing admiration of alt.culture.us.1980s, where I was spending some time when it was on. It’s quite good—sharply written, well cast, and (at times painfully) authentic.

In other words, on network television ten years ago, it never had a chance.

So this afternoon there’s that, an occasional pat on the head and encouraging word for my firstborn, and Facebooking (God, what a time sink, albeit an enjoyable one).

Tomorrow Nathan and I are supposed to greet at church, but he’s not going, so I’m hoping Aaron will be up to the challenge.  After that, Lea was going to take the boys over to her mom’s, but again, even if he’s feeling better, there’s still that 24-hour fever thing to consider.  The Dark Knight on Blu-ray at obscene volume will have to wait.

I decided to take Monday’s holiday, so if Nathan’s antibiotic kicks in, maybe we can get our hike in then.

So take it all ’round, it’s not a bad day today, but it’s definitely not as waistline-friendly as the one I had planned.  I hope you’re having a pleasant weekend.

    1. Tell Nathan we all hope he feels better soon. My son is so tired, he’s passed out on the bed.

    2. ‘seester: Hey! Hope you guys are enjoying yourselves. Take lots of photos.

    3. Freaks and Geeks is archival proof that Judd Apatow deserves the great run he is on now. When you’re done, I can loan you the inferior, yet still very good “sequel” series Undeclared. Amy swears by The Job, but she loves all things Denis Leary. Maybe even Operation Dumbo Drop.

    4. Oh, and get the boy healthy. You guys need to come over some time. Ever play the game Chrononauts or Settlers of Catan?

    5. BamaDan: I’ve met a couple of people who love all things Denis Leary, but never a woman who does so. Intriguing, indeed.

We don’t know Chrononauts or Settlers of Catan. When everyone’s 100%, we’ll do it. Sounds like fun.

    6. I lived Freaks and Geeks – the Disco is Dead is one of my favorite episodes. I was a Sophomore that year.
