Wow.  Alabama had paralyzing run defense, effective and controlling offense, no turnovers, few penalties, and mostly solid special teams play.

Can you ask for anything more?  That’s how games are won.  Play in the trenches like Alabama did tonight, and you just about can’t screw it up.

Of course, the maddening thing about the first game is that it’s hard to tell how much is really learned about your team and their opponent, because you’re operating without context.  I really hope Clemson is the solid ACC contender everyone says they are.

Great job, Alabama.  Keep the train rolling.  If you execute like this consistently, it’s going to be a mighty fine year.

    1. That was quite the impressive performance last night. Some of us others are also wondering how good Clemson really is, because, you know, I don’t like lollipops.

    2. Even if Clemson doesn’t turn out to be a heavyweight contender, they’re not awful, and we lost to one awful team last year. So I see the complete game we played as progress no matter what. (And I loved that we didn’t fall apart when Spiller ran the second half kickoff all the way back.)

I’m sure Saban is doing all he can to keep his players from believing all of the wonderful things people are saying about them today. Also, no matter what, we’re still young and thin. I hope we’ll have an opportunity to build some depth over the next couple of weeks. Particularly with Western Kentucky two weeks from now, the game should be quite over by halftime. There should be no reason 50-60 different players don’t play in that game.

I’ll stay reservedly excited until we see how the Georgia game goes. If we’re 5-0 on the other side of that one… ;-)
